You may encounter this error when trying to set your Branded Domain’s ‘Domain root’ to a new flipbook or folder:
This article explains:
Why are you getting this error?
You are trying to apply the setting ‘Domain root’ to a folder or flipbook, but the ‘Domain root’ for the Branded Domain has already been set for another folder, which the new flipbook is not placed in.
A Branded Domain can be applied to all folders and flipbooks, but only one folder or flipbook can be ‘rooted’ to one Branded Domain.
💡By ‘rooted’, it is meant that the folder or flipbook defines the shortened form of the URL. For example, if your Branded Domain is not rooted, your URL structure could be, for example, catalog.company.com/folder-name/week-42.
But if you root your Branded Domain at the folder level, the URL of the flipbook will instead be catalog.company.com/week-42
If you’re not already aware which folder or flipbook your Branded Domain is rooted to, the first thing you should do is to find out. Follow the instructions here.
How do you resolve the error?
There are different ways to fix the error, depending on what you want to achieve:
Add a new flipbook to an existing Branded Domain
Then, to resolve the error, you should create the new flipbook in the folder where the Branded Domain is currently set as ‘Domain root’.
Alternatively, if your Branded Domain is attached to a single flipbook, you should first remove the ‘Domain root’ setting from that flipbook, and then apply to the new flipbook.
💡We don’t recommend rooting a Branded Domain to a single flipbook. If you want to serve different flipbooks sequentially over time on a single, static URL, we recommend using Scheduling together with your Branded Domain.
Apply the Branded Domain to multiple flipbooks
First, you should remove the ‘Domain root’ of the Branded Domain from the current folder or flipbook, and then apply the ‘Domain root’ setting for the desired folder.
Doing so means that all flipbooks in the folder will inherit the Branded Domain as part of their URL.
You can find instructions for how to do so here.
When removing a Branded Domain from a folder or flipbook, it will result in the URL changing for all the flipbook(s) in question. If you have previously shared those links – for example in social media posts or newsletters – those links will be invalid.
Get a new Branded Domain
Sometimes a new, different Branded Domain is required. For example, if your company…
Operates in multiple markets
Creates different flipbook categories, such as weekly offers and year-long campaigns, which might benefit from being separated by specific Branded Domain.
