How to keep your Flipbook Enrichments safe when adding or removing pages from your PDF

Learn how to add or remove pages within an existing Flipbook, and ensure that your Enrichments remain on the correct page.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

If you update your flipbook’s PDF with minor cosmetic changes, like…

  • correcting typos

  • or updating design elements

… while keeping the page count and the order of the pages exactly the same, all manual and automated enrichments will remain intact. No enrichments will be moved or removed.

The placement of enrichments is only affected if there is a change to the number of pages or the page order in the PDF:

When changing the PDF, the enrichments will stay on the same page. For a PDF with a different page count or order, they may then be on the wrong page.

But sometimes, you might need to add or remove a few pages from an existing Flipbook. This could be due to certain products in your catalog no longer being available, or if you're changing or adding any new content to an existing catalog.

When you change the order of, or number of pages in a Flipbook, it's important to make sure that any enrichments are also properly re-ordered so that they are in the correct place.

For manual enrichments, this operation can be quite complex. We would love to jump on a call with you, to guide you through this and avoid unnecessary risk. Book a session with us here.

In this guide:

Make a backup of your Flipbook

Always back your Flipbook up when making large and significant changes. To do so:

  1. Right-click on your Flipbook in the Flipbook tree view.

  2. From the drop-down menu, select Copy Flipbook.

  3. Select a location where your Flipbook will be copied.

  4. Select Copy Flipbook.

If you have only automatic enrichments

Enrichments created by Enrichment Automation will be changed or removed automatically. As the enrichments are controlled by how the automation maps the data from the PDF and the data file provided.

So, if your flipbook has only automatic enrichments created by Enrichment Automation, you only have to Change your PDF to the new. Then, the automatic enrichments on the deleted pages will simply be removed.

If anything seems off, you can always just Update Enrichments. Read more here:

However, if you have any manual enrichments, you’ll need to make the changes below, depending on whether you're adding or removing pages.

How to remove pages and move manual Enrichments

If your flipbook has manual enrichments, you can’t simply Change the PDF and Update Enrichments.

A common misconception about moving manual enrichments is that you can simply change the PDF and then move the manual enrichments.

If you do so, this will happen:

You see?

  • The wrong manual enrichments are deleted.

  • The new pages 2 and 3 have the wrong enrichments.

Instead, the manual enrichments should be moved before changing the PDF. The process is as follows:

Manually created enrichments can only be deleted or moved manually through the Enrichment Editor. These enrichments will not disappear or shift automatically.

Remove the manual enrichments from your Flipbook

  1. Right-click on your Flipbook in the Flipbook tree view.

  2. From the drop-down menu, select Open enrichments editor.

  3. Delete the Enrichments from any pages that are going to be removed from the Flipbook.

As you are only deleting selected Enrichments from specific pages, this process must be done manually.

Remove the pages from your PDF and upload

To remove unwanted pages from your Flipbook, the process is the following:

  1. Remove the unwanted pages from your PDF.

  2. Right-click on your Flipbook in the Flipbook tree view.

  3. From the drop-down menu, select Change PDF.

  4. Select your new PDF from your Media Library, or drag and drop it into iPaper from your device.

  5. Click Change PDF. This will then process the new PDF, which has the desired pages removed.

Finally, check your Flipbook and ensure that all manual enrichments are in the right place.
