Sunsetting iPaper’s native Google Ads integration: how you can continue tracking

iPaper’s Google Ads integration is being sunsetted. Learn about why, and how to embed your Google Ads script with our alternative options.

Updated over 11 months ago

Why are we doing this?

Native integrations, such as our Google Ads integration, can become bottlenecks for functionally. This is because they often require continuous updating in order to maintain functionality, and typically lack the flexibility offered by broader integration solutions.

We are sunsetting our native Google Ads integration, as we offer smarter ways to integrate your Google Ads tracking, along with any of your other codes, or tracking scripts.

When will this happen?

As of today, the native iPaper Google Ads integration will become unavailable for any customers who do not have an existing Google Ads integration.

iPaper customers with an existing Google Ads integration will be able to continue to use it until JULY 1, 2024, but we encourage you to take action now, and migrate your Google Ads tracking to one of the alternatives detailed below.

After JULY1, 2024, any remaining tracking using the native Google Ads tracking will cease to work.

What alternatives are available?

Custom Scripting

Custom Scripting is an iPaper feature that allows you to inject third-party scripts into your Flipbook. Specifically, this feature allows you to add non-native scripts, such as Google Ads’ tracking code, into the header and footer tags around your Flipbook.

⚠️ Injecting your Google Ads tracking code into your Flipbooks using Custom Scripting requires that you have Administrator privileges on your iPaper account.

Unsure who the Administrator for your iPaper account is? You can find out using this method and link them to this article!

The process is simple:

  1. Copy the tracking code you wish to inject into your Flipbook.

  2. From the Flipbook overview view, right click on either the account, folder, or Flipbook level for which you wish to inject a custom script.

  3. Select Edit settings from the drop-down menu.

  4. Select the Modules tab.

  5. Select Custom Scripting from the vertical menu on the left.

  6. On the Custom Scripting view, select the toggle to enable it. Once enabled, the toggle will turn green.

  7. Paste your tracking code into the Scripts or Extra Scripts field, and save your changes.

Custom Scripting can be used to inject any third-party code into your Flipbooks. You can read more about how Custom Scripting works, and how you can use it in your Flipbooks, in our full guide below:

Google Tag Manager

You can also inject your Google Ads script, along with any other scripts or pixels that you store and manage through your Google Tag Manager, by using our native Google Tag Manager integration.

For this, you’ll need to have set up Google Tag Manager with all the scripts you wish to inject into your iPaper Flipbook, or folder.

  1. Copy your GTM ID code you wish to integrate.

  2. From the Flipbook overview view, right click on either the account, folder, or Flipbook level for which you wish to inject a custom script.

  3. Select Edit settings from the drop-down menu.

  4. Select the Integration tab.

  5. Select Google Tag Manager from the vertical menu on the left.

  6. Paste your GTM ID into the field, and save your changes.
