Flipbook Statistics

What metrics are available, what do they mean, and how can I use them?

Updated over a week ago

The iPaper platform includes a powerful statistics feature that allows you to gather information about many elements, e.g., the number of clicks in the Flipbook, number of visitors, where they come from and much more.

🔰 This article explains:

How to access your Flipbook's statistics

Once you publish your Flipbook, iPaper starts collecting statistics from all the traffic that has consented to it.

  1. You can find the statistics for your Flipbook by navigating to Flipbooks in the left-hand menu, clicking on the specific Flipbook.

  2. Select the Statistics option under the Flipbook title.

Key statistics

In the Statistics section for your Flipbook, the first tab you see is called Key statistics.

The Key Statistics tab gives you a breakdown of the visitors you've attracted to your Flipbook:

  • Flipbook Sessions: The registration of an iPaper session happens when one of your readers clicks your Flipbook URL and view it. Your Flipbook will then save a browser session cookie on the reader's device (PC, Phone, etc.), which is reset after 20 minutes.

When users close their browser program completely, iPaper will always register a new additional session. The same thing happens when a user returns, in the same browser session, after 20 minutes and 1 second (a new user session is then also registered.)

When users come back in the same browser session after 19 minutes or less, iPaper will see an existing user, and we renew the Flipbook session lifetime by an additional 20 minutes.

  • PageViews: Accumulated pageViews of all your Flipbook readers. One PageView is registered on page 1. One additional pageView is registered for each subsequent spread seen. PageViews are also registered when users page backwards and revisit spreads, already seen.

  • Avg. time spent: The average time readers spent in the entire Flipbook.

  • Avg. pageViews: The average number of pages viewed by each Flipbook reader.

  • PDF downloads: The number of clicks on the option to download the PDF used to create your Flipbook (when the option is turned on in Settings > General > Interface).

  • Logo Clicks: When you've added a URL to your company logo (via Settings > Design > Branding), the number of clicks will be shown here.

Additional Key statistics options

Other options in the key statistics tab include:

  1. Download Statistics as Excel: A detailed Excel sheet that lists all Flipbook metrics.

  2. See Statistics per Weekday: A selection of graphs showing Flipbook metrics arranged across week days.

  3. Predefined period: Define the data range (from-to) you want to look at. Will default to begin on the Flipbook creation date.

  4. Flipbook timezone: Should be set to the same location as the bulk of your Flipbook readers. That way, you can trust that time-based metrics match the time of your reader. By clicking, you will jump to the timezone settings, (located in: Settings > General > Region > Timezone.)
By taking advantage of inherited settings, you can apply your desired timezone for all of your flipbooks (account settings) or folder of flipbooks (folder settings), as needed.

The data displayed in the four graphs should be self-explanatory:

  • Sessions per date.

  • Sessions per time of day.

  • Views per page.

  • Time spent per page.

Audience statistics

The Audience tab is where you'll find collected data about your audience. That is to say, the visitors to your Flipbook. Here you can find insights on:

  1. Demographics: A breakdown of where in the world your Flipbook readers are located, broken down into percentages.

  2. Device distribution: An overview of the types of devices your Flipbook reades are using in order to view your Flipbook, such as desktop, mobile, or tablet.

Modules

In the Modules tab, you can find statistics on how your various modules perform in your Flipbook, including:

  1. News Ticker: The number of clicks on the Individual links, in the associated News Ticker.

  2. Build a Flipbook: The number of custom Flipbooks that have been created from your original Flipbook (when this option has been toggled in Settings > Modules > Build a Flipbook).

  3. Prints: The number of clicks on the Flipbook's printing option (when the option is turned on in Settings > General > Interface).

  4. Searches: What are your readers searching for in this particular Flipbook? A very interesting and perhaps overlooked metric. It will show you, in plain words, what your readers are looking for and interested in knowing more about. Thereby allowing you to include particular items or topics, and place them front and center in your next publication.

Shop statistics

If you're on a Commerce Plus plan or higher, the Shop module will be visible in your Flipbook statistics.

Actions

The Shop tab provides you with details on shop related interactions in your Flipbook. The first thing you'll see is a graph of color-labeled checkout actions organized by date. Your checkout options are:

  1. Email checkout

  2. Email sharing

  3. Print shopping list

  4. Exports (Your custom shop integration)

  5. WhatsApp

  6. Viber

Beside the Actions graph, you'll also see an overview of your key shop metrics:

  • Items checked out: The total number of checked out shop items during your selected date range.

  • Avg. items per checkout: The average number of items per checkout.

  • Actionable value: The total value of all checkouts, across all checkout types.

To give you even more insight into your how shop checkouts are performing, you'll find am itemized list of all the actions captured within your Flipbook, including

  • Times triggered: Total number of times the shop checkout type was used.

  • Items per action: The average number of items per checkout type.

  • Total value: The total value of all checkouts per checkout type.

  • Value per user: The average value of each checkout per checkout type.

Top 100 most checked out products, and Top 100 products added to basket

Beneath the Actions section, you'll find two further sections that highlight:

  • Top 100 most checked out products: The total quantity of each checked out item.

  • Top 100 products added to basket: Individual items that were added to the basket, but not necessarily checked out.

For each section, you are also able to download a complete list of these statistics in Excel format.

Heatmap

The heatmap is an efficient, visual way to give you a high level idea of how your visitors interact with your Flipbook, and what parts of a page catches their interest.

How are heatmaps generated?

The exact parameters of how we generate heatmaps on Flipbooks are subject to change. Currently, a Flipbook's heatmap is generated using the latest 500 interactions on a single page.

Depending on the number of interactions on a specific point or area, a color range is applied, ranging from blue to green to yellow to red, to illustrate the number of interactions in that area, relative to the visible pages.

What data is collected to generate a heatmap?

iPaper tracks the on-page coordinates for the first interaction per visitor on each new page visited.

💡 An interaction is any click/tap done inside the bound of the spread. So UI (Top-, Sidebar etc.) interactions are ignored.

Tracked heatmap interactions are:

  • On Desktop: Any click-interaction on the page, including double click for zoom, a click on any point on the page, or a link click.

  • On Mobile/tablet: Touch/tap interactions including, double tab to zoom or pinch to zoom but excluding drag interactions to scroll, move around or slide. Also included are any link clicks.

Above the heatmap section, you'll also find an overview of:

  • Views: The number of times a given spread was view by your readers.

  • Clicks on links: The accumulated number of clicks on the spread.

  • Average time spent on spread: The average time your readers spent looking on the spread.

Hovering your mouse over a link (represented by a dotted line) on your heatmap, will show you the link type, as well as the number of Individual clicks.

When the link is a shop variant or a menu, you can click through for the specific click on each item.

Considerations when using iPaper Statistics

While iPaper Statistics is a powerful piece of software to help you understand how your visitors interact with your Flipbook, there are some additional considerations to take into account when using them:

Statistics require visitor consent

To be able to collect page-specific visitor data from your Flipbook, visitors are required to give consent. This is done by accepting the performance Cookie in the Consent banner presented when they land on your Flipbook.

If a visitor does not give performance consent, iPaper will not be able to collect page-related data on that visitor. iPaper only presents page statistics for visitors who consented to having their data collected.

In the Statistics pane, you can see the percentage of visitors that have given performance consent for the specific time frame selected. All page-related statistics are therefore only shown from the percentage of visitors that have given performance consent.

💡 You can check the percentage of visitors for which we could collect data by hovering over the yellow tooltip beside your statistics.

Statistics require that your Flipbook is served over HTTPS

iPaper is unable to track whether user consent is given or collect visitor statistics when your Flipbook is served over HTTP. In order for iPaper to collect visitor statistics in your Flipbook, it must be served via HTTPS.

If the Statistics section for your Flipbook doesn’t contain data, it is most likely because it is being served over HTTP. Our team can help you solve this: simply get in touch via the chat bubble in the corner, and we will guide you towards serving your flipbooks via HTTPS.
